You're correct that the inconsistency should be resolved. As the
documentation is inconsistent with the program, this is a bug, and I've
adjusted its importance accordingly. There's no reason why this
couldn't be fixed for 8.04 if someone is willing to implement the
changes in grep and libpcre.
I can't find where I read it, but a quick workaround is to unplug and
replug the power cord after returning from hibernate. Works for me...
fan then blasts out very hot air. Perhaps all that's needed is to
toggle/refresh the "battery-or-AC power" state upon resume (if there is
such a thing).

X still crashes when I log in with GDM, except for the failsafe terminal. This
happened after an apt upgrade.

I have 7.04 fully updated running on a Dell Vostroand noticed that Samba shares
created in my hard drive or CD-ROM driver are fully functional in Nautilus,
instead it is impossible to enter shares created on a USB external drive.
However the Samba shares are fully functional when accessing via LA

jfyi, I've tried gutsy from todays apt repository, and made the
following observations so far (i.e. might be incomplete):
the xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.197-1ubuntu1 on a powerpc mac mini
(i.e. not my powerbook, which is my production environment I can't
sacrifice right now yet for testing :-),

To get your fix (or workaround) included in Ubuntu, try transforming it
into debdiff (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Recipes/Debdiff) and

[Hardy] gnome-localization-properties is completely broke
No proper Alphas exist for my PowerPC port, but I've tried to install a
few recent daily PPC builds from ISOs and also tried network
installation directly from the online repositories (my preferred method,
successful for previous releases). I can always get the base Hoary
system installed just fine
I thought I read somewhere that this would be fixed in Gutsy, but I'm
still seeing it, in emacs22 on a system upgraded from ... I dunno,
originally Edgy installation I guess?
