Apparently one can install the archived driver with restricted installed
as well.
When I do a full purge on all of the restricted bits, /sbin/lrm-video
ceases to exist. This will result in X generating the "lrm-video" not

I can confirm this. I'm running Gutsy on Lenovo T60 (1680x1050 wide
screen) with fglrx driver and ati mobility x1400 graphics adapter. With
Feisty suspend worked well, as well as with Gutsy running Feisty kernel
(2.6.20).

Had the same problem upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy with working
fglrx+Xgl config. I had to revert several Xgl feisty-specific changes
so stuff actually works.
I modified the suggestion in comment 7 and executed:

to reproduce start a gnome-terminal with an active compiz und fullscreen the
terminal.
i can reproduce it on all updated gutsy system. (gfxchip: ati, intel or nvidia)

Why can't Ubuntu just put out a kernel flavor for ATI users that uses
SLAB instead of SLUB for the time being? Seems like a more productive
workaround than just saying, ATI has to fix it.

Hi all,
I think I'm having the same issue. I have P4 1.5 GHz / ASUS P4V8X-MX
board / 256 MB RAM. I don't know if the via driver is right for me.
I'm currently using vesa. When I change the driver in xorg.conf from
vesa to via, X won't startup. Can somebody pls tell me if i'm using the
