When the Cover Art plugin is enabled (as it was by default on a recent Feisty
system), Rhythmbox crashes with a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" error

As you said, no problem when language settings wad Default.
rss-glx package's Description is Japanese, and adept-installer parses it and
tries to show Japanese messages, but adept-installer cannot show Japanese.

the service so I had fresh logs. My client computer isn't available at
the moment so I've been connecting locally through smb://127.0.0.1.

The easiest way to confirm this issue is to run a video with Totem and
then suspend. After resume video window is black and sound stops after
some seconds or doesn't appear again. If I now close Totem PC freezes
completly. This is independent of compiz and Totem since Vlc usage
results in the same.

Using ctrl-tab works correctly you can use that as a workaround.

Supplementing my report of 9/10/07: the update of 9/20/07 (totalling 107
files) has now completely trashed Compiz. All of the settings in "DL
Desktop" and "Appearance > Desktop Effects" are correct, but there are
zero effects. None of the hot key buttons work to rotate cube, etc.

it, but most of the time, I recompile the kernel without the THERMAL

Quikee is right - memory remapping "solves" the problem.
After memory remapping (3.3GB instead of 4) the bonnie benchmark is
running, there are only problems with the network driver:

Evidently the error appears only in internationalised versions of mountconfig
(module called by my systemsettings is in Czech and has the error, module
called directly from console is in English and works fine).
