Well the problem did seem to go away... on its own. I used noapic flag
during the kernel boot. Again after hitting install the screen 4 was
blank but after some time ...may be after 10 mins I could see options to
partition disk coming up. Also I am using 7.04 against 7.04 beta.

before the "stack smashing" would normally happen, try this:

I didn't realize that. I checked out the current kernel tree in Gutsy -
there seemed to be Keyspan modules in there. I was going to try to
check out the Feisty sources to diff/check them as well but never got
around to them.

In Feisty there's a note in /etc/default/saslauthd telling the user to
add a parameter to saslauthd command line so that it opens its socket
inside postfix chroot. It's not a perfect solution if you need to use
saslauthd for other programs (cyrus...) since you can't symlink
