Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ekiga
I run a laptop with wireless and wired network interfaces, and VMware. VMware creates virtual network interfaces which are always up, whereas eth0 and eth1 can go down when I take the laptop offline. Each time I go offline (take the laptop to another location), ekiga changes to using a VMNET interface as the source, *always* breaking VOIP until I manually reset it to use the correct interface when I'm back online. Often, the new interface doesn't even show up correctly when I get reconnected to the network. I have to shut down ekiga and restart the app in order to manually select the correct interface... *each* time I visit a coffeeshop or other location. Is there a way to deal with this currently? Perhaps the app should notice the change in default route and select an interface that has one. Or perhaps set priorities... ie. if eth1 comes up and the default interface is anything else, use eth1. or eth0 if eth1 isn't available, and anything else otherwise.... but certainly switch back to the preferred interface when it becomes available. Until then, a quick and easy fix would be to allow the setting of an interface and not auto-changing it. This is seriously forcing me to reconsider using the app at all, as each time I start it up I'm having to spend 5 minutes getting everything to work correctly.
