I've found a funny workaround: if you restart the X server after booting (by
pressing ctrl-alt-backspace) restarting and shutting down magically works.
I don't know if it is kdm fault. Or xorg-driver-fglrx (I have an ATI card -
does everyone else experience this bug only on ATI cards?).

i usually take whatever the upgrade gui reports so this is what i just
tried

Hi, I have a similar issue: Ubuntu is installed on /dev/hda10, but when
updater updates grub/menu.lst it uses the UUID of /dev/hda9 (where
debian unstable) is installed.
Here my fstab, menu.lst and the output of blkid. I hope this will help.

I really do not think that it is fixed.
Clean install yesterday night, updates applied. Restricted Manager says I
do not need any restricted drivers but I do need a restricted driver for
nVidia card.

included. The first is when I first open ubuntu and my wireless connection

I agree I can't seem to pin this bug down. No error's or tell tail
signs. One train of thought did point to the network manager and
wireless. I'm connected by a wired LAN, and something is telling me to
disable the wireless interface and see if that's whats causing issues.

I tested again, this time, I checked the USB cable and noticed it was
disconnected :S
Now, everything works fine.
Another information that my be userfull, I have also a TV-Card in my PC
: PInnacle PCTV Stereo.
