After some upgrade everything started working. I am now using Edgy and

upgrading compiz the moment hibernation started working).

Ok, I can reproduce the problem here just fine with the following
command:
$ sudo python2.4 /usr/sbin/update-app-install ; gnome-app-install
and it crashes reliable
$ sudo python2.5 /usr/sbin/update-app-install ; gnome-app-install
and it works fine.
The code builds a medium complex pickle.

Please note that this is a different bug than #74773. This one is a
pickle problem, the other one is a python-dbus error.

This bug seems to be unreleated to #74773. I suspect this one is
triggered /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check. I was not able to
reproduce this here, but I would be happy if someone could provide a
more complete backtrace.

I have this exact same problem. The only way I can get Firefox to start
now is in safe-mode from the command line, and I have removed the Google
Browser Sync add-on.
aptitude reinstall firefox does not help either
Please let me know if I can get any more info to help trace the problem.
