There is an error in postinstall script with
flashplugin-nonfree-7.0.68~ubuntu1~dapper1. apt-get downloads the plugin and
then:

remember the rest of the numbers for the version number. still it may be a
problem with my hard drive. i cant be sure.

Previously the LiveCD had an i386 kernel with no SMP support. There was
an i686 kernel with dynamic SMP support, but that kernel wasn't used for
the LiveCDs.
Just for clarity, does the "generic" thing mean that there's now one
kernel for all x86 archs (i386 and others) that support SMP on SMP
sys
It seems fixed with the latest kernel update for dapper, i believe it
was 2.6.17-27-k7 (can't check version right now)

I have found that the problem lies in the udev package, which has
/lib/udev/devices/null
set to the wrong permission.
Just change the permission of this file to a+rw and at the next boot
/dev/null
will have the same permission.

knot3), in dapper this used to work fine. On my home network dhcp fails
with "Message too long".

are you sure just restarting the lirc-daemon doesn't help? At least when
vdr connects to lircd the daemos quits when it can't find /dev/lirc.
Check the syslog for any messages from lircd.

There should be a "lirc-modules" -package like there is linux-
restricted-modules, and that package should contain every module lirc
supports. Then it should be easy (?) to choose/guess the right module
for the hardware..
