Suspend finally works with Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 on my HP Pavilion
dv5062ea. But there are two problems:
* KMS must be disabled, otherwise the computer hangs completely
* X.org must be running. Otherwise the screen won't turn on again and keyboard
won't work either, but the computer wakes up execu
Confirmed with both suspend and hibernate on Ubuntu 9.10 on a HP Pavilion
dv5029US.
It seems to suspend successfully, but on booting it stays on a black screen (no
back-light) and seems to be stuck.
Hibernation also seems fine, but booting into Ubuntu again works fine and
Ubuntu says "Waking up.
I still have the same problem, these days with Ubuntu 8.10. I am also
dual booting with Debian Lenny and Hibernate on Debian has always worked
using uswsusp. I used to be able to hibernate using s2disk on Ubuntu,
using the command line but even this does not work these days, the
screen just locks
I realize my dv5000 laptop is quite different than the one in the
original report (mine has Intel CPU/chipset), so I filed a new report in
bug 317088. Sorry for the noise I added here.

Hibernate and suspend now work (and resume correctly, most of the time)
on my dv5230tx with Intrepid with kernel version 2.26.27-9.19 and with
linux-backports-modules-2.6.27-9.5 installed.
Occasionally, I have to reboot after resuming from hibernation, usually
because NetworkManager hasn't come up
Resume seems to be broken with 2.6.27-7.11, AFAICT from testing with a
live "CD" usb stick.

Well, the 2.6.27 kernel doesn't boot at all on the dv5000. It hangs when

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Hibernate seems to work well in the final version of Hardy (wireless
connections work after resuming). Could someone else with a dv5000
confirm this?

The Ubuntu kernel has been updated, and now hibernate works properly.
However, the wireless connection doesn't seem to work after resuming.
I'll try to investigate this further.

It looks like that patch was accepted into Linux 2.6.24.1. Is it too
late for the kernel in Hardy be upgraded to this version? Or for the
patch to be backported?

With b43 disabled hibernate works flawlessly, without any changes to the
GDM configuration (except for that the wireless card doesn't work).
This patch is a fix to this problem (however I haven't tried it so I can't tell
if it actully works):
http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2008/2/
After making the changes to gdm.conf-custom (see above) Hibernate works
but the wireless driver (b43) stops working until I reboot normally.
Trying to unload it and then reload it causes the computer to lock up
totally, requiring a reboot.
I'll try disabling the b43 driver and see if things work t
I have the same problem with my dv5023ea. Both suspend and hibernate
fail, BUT the test mode works flawlessly. Also, suspending from the
recovery console works fine (except that the screen is not refreshed).
To try the test mode I used the following commands:
echo test > /sys/power/disk
echo disk

I can also confirm this problem on my Pavilion dv5230tx (dv5000 series),
running feisty 32-bit. It suspends but won't resume (requires complete
power off to recover). It did the same on dapper.
Hibernate and resume used to work on dapper, but now it hibernates OK
but reboots rather than resuming
Thank you, really appreciate the help.

To resolve the suspend problem, I added the following to my gdm.conf-custom.
