Also have the same issue. I have radeon HD3000 integrated video card
running ubuntu 12.04, with latest ati proprietary driver from ati web
site. Also tried drivers from ubuntu repo - same problem.

confirmed on kubuntu 11.10 after the latest flashplugin installer
upgrade (automatical) - video (flash player) sometimes stops on youtube
for two seconds, then continues with the movie, otherwise it's working
ok.

All, what version of adobe-flashplugin do you have installed? You can
find out by running:
dpkg -s adobe-flashplugin
In my experience all flash performance issues in Linux were solved with
the release of Flash Player version 11...

I have an AMD Sempron 3400+, 1.2GB memory + GeForce 6100 nForce 405
'integrated' graphics.
They work well on 11.04 showing Flash Youtube/Iplayer full screen, but
are utterly useless on 11.10, so I have re-installed 11.04 and all is
well again.
Tried both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of 11.10 and la
Unity 2D solved this problem too. I don't think my computer is that
old, but my ATI card seems to hate Unity 3D.
And with Unity 2D all the other applications start faster!
I hope the Ubuntu Community never stop supporting Unity 2D.

I forgot to mention that I was using Firefox 7.0.1, but Chromium solved
my problem, although sometimes I still get crackling sound and video is
not so smooth, but at least is watchable and listeneable. Thanks for
reading.

I also have this problem with nvidia 9800 GT and an intel GMA integrated card.
When I start to play the video it's always okay but after 5 minutes it gets
slow and choppy.

I have an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 and additional drivers or propietary
are not available for me. I ran the command 'lshw -c video' to know my
driver and in configuration says: "driver=radeon"
I can't watch flash videos (i.e. YouTube) in fullscreen because they are
choppy and the sound is garbled
The problem with ATI-proprietary drivers (which are recommended by
Ubuntu) and the overall desktop experience is beyond only being a
problem with Flash-videos. The desktop feels slow, unresponsive and the
initial drivers (non-proprietary) which are shipped with Ubuntu 11.10
gives a much more respon
