So far I've noticed that this is mainly a problem when working with
LibreOffice from a window that has an open document in it. The Alt-*
menus work in LibreOffice if there is no document open and in other
programs (Firefox, Nautilus).

I just upgraded to Oneiric today and am using Unity (which I avoided in
Natty because it was unstable for me), and this problem persists. The
only way to get a file/edit/etc. menu is with the mouse. This really is
a huge step backwards for people who like to open menus without fiddling
with mouses
After my report, an upgrade has fixed this problem.

Alt-f opens the File menu for me in both GNOME Terminal and in Gedit.
F10 also opens the menu-system for me in both GNOME Terminal and Gedit,
although the choice of initial menu appears a bit random.

i consider this issue a show stopper. i literally cannot function
without this. the alt- menu menmonic feature has existed forever.
please don't break it.

Q: One may say, why not F10?
A: It's not so easy to reach. Alt-f, Alt-e (this opened Edit menu), Alt-v (for
View menu. So I don't only mean Alt-f. I mean this kind of shortcuts), etc is
much easier to reach (and then shortcuts in the opened menu, e.g., 's' is often
for 'Save...', and 'a' for 'Sa
My current system is:
