It was marked auto, so not a bug.

[Maverick] autoremove removes package
Agree, I guess we just leave it there since we don't have any hints what causes
the mystery.
Thanks a lot for your input and time.

Thanks for the log info. The logs indicate that conky-all was installed
on its own, without any package that depends on it. To me it remains a
mystery why it was marked with auto. Unfortunately I do not see a path
from here to tracking down the problem, as the issue cannot be
reproduced.

Thanks for the nice cmd. The 12th was the installation day of Maverick.

My understanding is, that the automatically installed flag is set when
the package comes in as a dependency and was not specified by the user
directly.
As the problem cannot be reproduced, maybe a trace can be found in
the /var/log/dpkg* log files on your system. If the logs are still

$ aptitude show conky-all
Package: conky-all
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 1.
Thanks for your reply!
What happens when you remove the auto installed flag from conky-all with
$ sudo apt-mark unmarkauto conky-all
It should cure the problem and probably helps you along for now.
I tried to reproduce your problem locally and I couldn't:
$ sudo apt-get install conky-all
$ sudo
Thanks for the review.
conky-all wasn't marked as 'auto install', I manually marked and installed it
as standalone app, then was surprised it would get removed if I wouldn't
closely pay attention to what gets autoremoved.
It wasn't brought_in_as_a_dependency from another app if this is the meanin
It seems to me that conky-all was brought in as a dependency and I believe it
was marked as auto install. Now the depending package has been uninstalled,
hence marking conky-all for auto removal. Can you check if conky-all is marked
as auto, with
$ apt-mark showauto | grep conky-all
