I have installed 10.04 on the system I could not get sound with 10.10
and there is still no sound.
right now, that means that blacklisting intel_ips is a valid workaround
for other systems, and that the pci sound is questionable in both 10.04
and 10.10. I will make available any further informatio
markmywords ,
the blacklisting has not helped for me. I still have no sound from the
system. I am using a pci sound card and not an onboard, so that might be
the difference.
I will continue to look for any solutions and post when I have new info
Thanks

sound card(s) not detected in Ubuntu 1
Hi johnmay,
sorry, you are right. I mixed up the path in my previous posting. It is
of course /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf I also have a
blacklist.local.conf file created for my own changes and I am also
running 64bit meerkat. Did blacklisting intel_ips help you?

sound card(s) not detected
I have added intel_ips as the line : blacklist intel_ips
to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Which is the closest I could find to the file mentioned by markmywords (also it
is the file I use to blacklist wireless usb drivers)
I am running 64 bit meerkat not sure if that is the difference
I was able to fix this problem for the moment by adding intel_ips to
/etc/modprobe/blacklist.local.conf
Sounds works perfectly fine now.

This post contains the dmesg from the installed 10.10.
Another curious note, the live run did not recognise the sound card at
all while the install will sometimes. Though it does show up in lspci
whether it is recognised or not

I don't know if this is helpful information or not but I tried out the
latest Fedora Live CD and everything worked fine with that. Both sound
devices were recognized and installed and sound output works fine. No
other hickups whatsoever. See attached dmesg output.
Kind regards,
Mark

Ok thanks, there is something interesting going on here, but I need a
dmesg dump with teh onboard sound disabled. SO disable the onboard
sound, boot the live CD, and log the dmesg output the same as you did
with onboard sound enabled.
Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to me. SO it appears that something in the
driver is dying when attempting to deal with your card. Could you plesae
boot into a live CD again, and get me the complete dmesg output? To do
this, open a terminal, and dump dmesg to a file like so: "dmesg >
dmesg.log". Then attac
Hi and thank you for taking your time with this bug report.
I booted 10.10 from a Live CD and ran the ALSA script as requested. The

You mentioned trying things from the forum. Did that include updating
alsa itself? If so, it seems that it has rendered the audio stack on
your system somewhat broken, at least going by the first alsa-info
report you linked to. However, if the only thing you did was to disable
onboard sound before
