I have installed 10.04 on the system I could not get sound with 10.10 and there is still no sound. right now, that means that blacklisting intel_ips is a valid workaround for other systems, and that the pci sound is questionable in both 10.04 and 10.10. I will make available any further informatio

markmywords , the blacklisting has not helped for me. I still have no sound from the system. I am using a pci sound card and not an onboard, so that might be the difference. I will continue to look for any solutions and post when I have new info Thanks -- sound card(s) not detected in Ubuntu 1

Hi johnmay, sorry, you are right. I mixed up the path in my previous posting. It is of course /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf I also have a blacklist.local.conf file created for my own changes and I am also running 64bit meerkat. Did blacklisting intel_ips help you? -- sound card(s) not detected

I have added intel_ips as the line : blacklist intel_ips to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf Which is the closest I could find to the file mentioned by markmywords (also it is the file I use to blacklist wireless usb drivers) I am running 64 bit meerkat not sure if that is the difference

I don't know if this is helpful information or not but I tried out the latest Fedora Live CD and everything worked fine with that. Both sound devices were recognized and installed and sound output works fine. No other hickups whatsoever. See attached dmesg output. Kind regards, Mark ** Attachment
