Same issue on an HP G60-530US Notebook. Plug in headphones & sound is
still piped through both the headphones and the speakers. Tried (as you
can see):
apport-collect -p alsa-driver 521678
but the results are only as in comments #3 & #4. Should I have used
apport-collect -p alsa-driver 521678

Rebooting the PC was not sufficient (for whatever reason), it seems, to
apply the above changes. Powering the computer down and then back up
has resulted in the bug mentioned above being no longer apparent.
ALSA fix for HP Pavilion DV7:
1. Install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic
