I had the same proplem as the OP, with an AMD Sempron and Toshiba 60GB ATA drive. After creating the partition with gparted on ubuntu feisty live cd, I reinstalled windows on one of the partitions, but now gparted sees the entire drive as unallocated space. fdisk -l gives the following output from

i have acer aspire 1694wlmi and i had exact the same problem. Disk-admin sees them all right but gparted says that it's all "unallocated". this is wrong info. when i press next without any allocation it sees partitions but this time it says "you need to specify a root directory". -- gparted doesn
