I think that this problem re-emerged following a standard upgrage of
2.6.31.
I repeated the 20100712 patch, make, make install, sudo rmmod gspca_sonixj. On
sudo modprobe gspca_sonixj I got...
FATAL: Error inserting gspca_sonixj
(/lib/modules/2.6.31-22-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video/gspca/gsp
This problem was solved by upgrading to Ubuntu 10.4 my webcam Microsoft
VX1000 worked out of the box without any problems.

Still, it would be nice if starting the video didn't break the sound,
requiring:
sudo rmmod gspca_sonixj
sudo modprobe gspca_sonixj

Steps 7 & 9 work for me in 2.6.31 (Karmic.) Actually, my mic used to
fail whether or not I opened Cheese.

I'm using Lucid kernel, 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP
my vx1000 webcam works fine for Video, but no mic.
In preference->sound->input I changed to "LifeCam VX-1000 Analog Mono",
but still can't see the mic picking up sound.

I am following other forums on which no one has gotten the VX-1000
camera and microphone to work at the same time. I am running the most
current 64-bit version of Ubuntu 9.10. With a little tweaking, my

This bug is fixed by updating the v4l drivers (specifically gspca v2.7.0
rather than v2.6.0 as shipped with karmic). It would be great if this
could be fixed in a kernel update!
