Much time since last update and I have some news
I'm currently using the latest karmic updates (including kernel) and running
ati drivers from xorg-edgers ppa
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
Using the above combination and hpet=disable solved the problem.

I tried many options, including the noapic and hpet=disabled.
But my Vostro continues to no resume after a suspend to ram. :(
The karmic boot is really faster than the other releases, but suspend/resume is
much faster :).

I also have a Dell Vostro 1000 and ran into the same issue on resume
after install of 9.10 Final. I did not have this issue on Jaunty.
Things I have tried:
1) nomodeset - I initially thought this might be related to kernel mode setting
but this made no difference
2) HPET=disable - I was hopeful
Some bad news.
I tried both options and I got only the Wireless led on after starting resume.
After that nothing... a pure and dark screen with a stucked computer..
Only manual reboot works.

I don't know if the option is "hpet=disable" (without the end "d") or
"hpet=disabled", but I remember to use this option with the 9.04 and the things
worked well.
I will give a try to the option in this new release. Maybe I will have some
lucky and things will start to work.

This laptop worked fine with 8.10. When I upgraded it to 9.04 I had this
suspend/resume issue where it would not successfully resume. After
looking at other bugs on the list and the forums etc. I found the
suggestion for passing the params "hpet=disabled" which worked a treat.
Upgraded to 9.10 and

The problem still occurring with the RC of Karmic Koala
A resume after suspend to ram always fails.

Hi,
According suspend/resume debbuging procedures, the last driver with hash check
was
[1.65] acpi device:1c: hash matches
but I haven't found any device with this number
