Using the above combination and hpet=disable solved the problem. I can't tell what solved the problem: if just kernel updates + hpet=disable or if the ati drivers have some participation in this solution, but all that matters is that everything is working now. I hope that this bug does not come with the Lucid release. Why don't suggest hpet=disable by default on Vostro 1000 series? -- [Dell Inc.
