I am on lucid beta 2 and I get these messages 51 times:

I have same problem
i can't write anything to a cd either, when i type dmesg|tail in
terminal, I get the following

I too am having this problem with Karmic with the latest updates
installed as of March 10th 2010. Will not mount cd's or dvd's
Along with the "cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!"
messages in the logs, I get this when trying to manually mount:
desktop:~$ sudo mount /dev/scd0 /m
[ 2429.321843] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
DVD found, but brasero still can't find any :(

I have probably the same error. I am unable to burn at any free DVD-R/RW on KK
Alpha 3 using brasero or gnomebaker.
Always askes me for free medium to burn on, although I have it in cd-rom drive.

because an empty cd wouldn't have any filesystem to mount in the first
place. not really a bug tho.

Is the real problem here that you're unable to use the usual methods to burn a
disk ?
brasero informs me it doesn't see any disks it can write to but i just ran
"cdrecord /home/kit/Desktop/karmic-desktop-amd64.iso /dev/sr0" from a console
which appears to have succeeded.

I have the exact same problem. If you put in a blank cd-r, cd-rw,
dvd±r, or dvd±rw you get this in your dmesg.
