I have probably the same error. I am unable to burn at any free DVD-R/RW on KK Alpha 3 using brasero or gnomebaker. Always askes me for free medium to burn on, although I have it in cd-rom drive. Weird.. + I am unable to open drive until reboot/suspend machine. Once works only eject, but then nothing.
