ubuntulooks has been depricated. It is no longer developed in Ubuntu or
as an upstream project. It has been superseded by gtk2-engines-murrine
since intrepid, and it has been removed from the archive in lucid. Due
to this, I am closing this bug as "Won't Fix."

in my new laptop (dell d830) the problem is mitigated, but still here.

Another funny fact: Using KDE's kwin window manager, resizing a GTK app
is much faster and smoother than in GNOME+Metacity. You can check it out

Does anybody know if this is true only in GTK shipped with Ubuntu or is
it with all GTK?
Some notes:
I noticed that resizing Thunar windows is faster if you use the default
location toolbar, the one with the buttons. Using the location bar where you
can type in the location is slower.

I'ts funny, but now with GTK+ 2.12, the toolkit is faster in windows
(with the uxtheme engine), than in X11. (I have a fast core2 cpu, and a
recent nvidia card with binary driver). The greatest difference is the
window resizing speed.

hi, just an update to say that the problem still lives with feisty (as
it did with edgy).
i know, it's not an ubuntu's fault, but a gtk's one... maybe in the
future we'll have accelerated gtk, but at the present slower computers
suffer. newer processors behave better, i experienced good performanc

I can confirm this behaviour on both of my systems: a Dell Dimension

Dell Inspiron 8000 (P3 800Mhz, 196MB ram, ATI Mobility M4). There's a
general feeling of sluggishness and excessive repainting occurs
