since it is unmaintained. Unfortunately, this means that no new features
or bugfixes will be made.

The problem with the dangling symlink is a kde4.2.1 problem. I'm already
looking at a fix for it.

I also had the same problem that Thomas Winteler reported. I'm using
kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.2 extra repositories (deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-experimental/ubuntu intrepid main).
The guidance-power-amanger backtrace says that the file

Thomas: this package isn't installed either for me, but PowerDevil is
still listed in KDE services(System settings -> "Advanced" tab ->
Services) and appears to be working. Besides when it is unchecked my
backlight level doesn't get changed at login.

On my System powerdevil isn't installed... and its verions is from
KDE4.1.3..
Version: 1.4.1-kde4.1.3-0ubuntu1~ppa1
so.. then i can't understand why powerdevil should be the problem, if it
isnt't available?.. or does i missed an information?

You are right Syniurge.. Actually Guidance-power-manager works
correctly. But it is powerdevil, which is the problem. I tried Jaunty,
and the Power-Devil applet and it inverts the brightness.

This also affects my Asus F5Z-AP054C since KDE 4.2 went into intrepid
backports, but I don't think it is related to guidance-power-manager. I
removed guidance since its functionnality is now handled by PowerDevil,
the one you can configure in KDE config panel. The slider in guidance
was workin
I can confirm this bug.
Got the exact same problem. When on AC power at boot, after login my
brightness will fall to min. If I'm on battery my brightness go in max.
It behave like it is inverted, but my FN keys works flawless.
I got the same version of guidance-power-manager as Thomas, but using
