Title:
MPD consumes 20-30% CPU after changing tracks
To manage notifications
Thanks for reporting. Reading upstream's comment, the solution to this
bug and to bug 364475 will be the same (providing pulse-audio output in
mpd.conf).

I think this bug is related to this mpd bug:
http://www.musicpd.org/mantis/view.php?id=1661
The workaround in this bugreport worked for me and it is very similar to the
workaround above! The point is that you have to explicitly set the audio device
in the mpd.conf file.

MPD consumes 20-30%
The same problem here, but I'm using debian unstable, without pulseaudio.
MPD version: 0.13.2
I have only one pulse audio library installed (libpulse0) because it is one of
the requirements of mpd. Because of this, i think it is not a pulseaudio
problem. There is no error messages in /var/log/mpd
I suppose that is a workaround.. not really a solution though, as it
blocks you from using PulseAudio.

"Are you sure you checked the two options in paprefs?" yes I did that...
I uninstalled all pulseaudio pakcages including the gstreamer pulseaudio
package and now I dont have the high CPU usage... at least so far. I
suppose like this it defaults to using alsa...

Are you sure you checked the two options in paprefs? These two:
* Enable network access to local sound devices
* Don't require authentication
That's the only thing I can think of that would be directly related to
the fix I got working..

MPD consumes 20-30% CPU after changing tracks
I am facing the same problem of high CPU usage by mpd. For me usage
increases without necessarily going to the next song... after a while of
playing, CPU use increases enough to throttle up my laptop CPU to max
clocks. :(
I tried Scott's fix of using Pulse audio but mpd simply won't play when

At the suggestion of another user suffering similar issues, I tried the
following:
1) Install the PulseAudio preferences manager (package `paprefs'); this
happened to already be installed in my case
2) In paprefs, under the "Network Access" tab, check the following two options:
