I cannot say, because after these problems i am not using ubuntu for
allday work more. I tried Intrepid ... and there have some issues too
(not same).

It's happening to me too :(, I have a Dell inspiron 9400 with nvidia
card GeForce Go 7900 GS. it seems to occur more when I'm using firefox,
but happened with other programs too but rarely. I'm considering to make
a downgrade to 7.10 which worked like a rock in the same computer.

Phew! That was close!
I was being all arrogant in thinking that my issues had come to an
end... Reinstallation of the NVidia drivers by EnvyNG appears to have
helped little - it froze up completely again.

I crashed three times within 20 minutes of booting this morning -
starting with the first just after login.
I then spent some time researching this issue and it seems to be related
to the NVidia hardware. I installed envyng-gtk from the Synaptic package
manager and ran EnvyNG from the Applications
I attempted to run with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers shut off, but
still got crashes.
It is possible as beefcurry wrote that the crashes were less frequent,
but I can't swear to it. I haven't been able to discern a pattern in the
crashing, so I'm uncertain if there was a change in it.

I can confirm, I had thought it was heat related but after I had started
monitoring the heat I found out it crashed/freezed at relatively cool
levels. When using the Nvidia drivers from the restricted drivers
manager my system would be constantly crashing especially when running
video, flash or oth
I have been having this difficulty since 8.04 upgrade as well. I'm also
on an hp tc1100 tablet pc with 1.5 Gb ram.
I have been using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. I just disabled them
and will post back if there is no success with that.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Yes I am running a tc1100 with nvidia hardware.
This system was super stable under 7.10, now it locks up several times a day.
Very frustrating. I am not a linux expert, I just want a stable system. I will
revert back to the 7.10 unless somebody has an easy fix. I am relocating an
office to Aus

Now Ubuntu freezed with empathy too. This seems to be a x-server related
problem.

After 1 day of testing 173.08 drivers and ubuntu, system looked
completely stable ... but today system freezed again. I think it may
look stupid, but in same time when i reinstalled drivers i changed im
communicator to empathy and throw away pidgin. Today i performed system
update and i needed to u
