I have been having this difficulty since 8.04 upgrade as well. I'm also on an hp tc1100 tablet pc with 1.5 Gb ram.
I have been using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. I just disabled them and will post back if there is no success with that. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
