I can confirm the bug even on kernel vanilla > 2.6.25 U can normally transfer files from devices to the system (and viceversa) without X and everythink works great With X running (and nvidia card) after few seconds the system got freeze with no I/O log . On recent 2.6.24-17 from ubuntu hardy ehc

After some more experiment, i can confirm that the curious thing is that X is involved. Using nv or nvidia driver does not matter (should i try vesa ?). When i start a file transfer to my external HD using nautilus and immediately switch to console, everything goes normally, so does if i directly
