After some more experiment, i can confirm that the curious thing is that X is involved. Using nv or nvidia driver does not matter (should i try vesa ?).
When i start a file transfer to my external HD using nautilus and immediately switch to console, everything goes normally, so does if i directly use the cp command in console mode. The freeze only happens when X is active. Is there anything i can do to provide more information?
