Just a quick note: I havent experienced this problem in a long time with
8510p nor 8710w after installing the latest beta ATI and NVIDIA drivers
(via kanotix scripts). With those versions present in the repository I
had constant problems. I haven't used them since so I'm unable to

It could also be dependent on the atmospheric temp .If you live in hot
countries a temp of 60 is a pretty trivial issue to be concerned about

Another 8510p here.
I'm currently using Vista because of this.
Under Ubuntu the fan is always blasting with hot air. After about 10-20
minutes of usage under Hardy (usage = internet browsing), it will be
around 70 degrees celsius, more if flash or java are being used. Under
Vista, the temperature
I can confirm this issue. I think the the problem causes the

Wow, I just found a thread on the Ubuntu forums from Ares Drake, which
describes cooling down your PC by lowering the cpu's voltage. I tried
it out, and my laptop runs cooler. In addition, I gained an extra hour
in my battery life (up from 2hrs to 3hrs)! Here's the link:

I'm experiencing similar problems with Hardy. My laptop is at 54
degrees Celsius idle and creeps up to 70C when heavily loaded. I'm
guessing it has something to do with Linux and Ubuntu not being able to
properly keep the processor(s) in an idle state.

Same for me.
I updated yesterday from 7.10 to 8.04. While my Laptop (Samsung R50, 1,7
Ghz) has already been quite hot under ubuntu 7.10 (~55C idle), the core
temperature reaches now 70C idle and hits 85C easily under load. The
situation became unbearable and I decided to reinstall ubuntu from

My comment is spurious - one of the case fans had seized - bad timing
makes for lots of confusion.

of the time but temps are up over 60 degrees idle and into 80 degree
range under load, fan never seems really run, this is on hardy.
