Wow, I just found a thread on the Ubuntu forums from Ares Drake, which describes cooling down your PC by lowering the cpu's voltage. I tried it out, and my laptop runs cooler. In addition, I gained an extra hour in my battery life (up from 2hrs to 3hrs)! Here's the link:
