I am not sure how the ASPEED AST driver is maintained in Ubuntu and
Linux in general but ASPEED has stated that they recommend using their
DRM driver version 1.12 for 5.8 or newer kernels in order "to avoid
conflict from multi kernel thread". I have not tried this as it was not
