I am not sure how the ASPEED AST driver is maintained in Ubuntu and
Linux in general but ASPEED has stated that they recommend using their
DRM driver version 1.12 for 5.8 or newer kernels in order "to avoid
conflict from multi kernel thread". I have not tried this as it was not
clear if the DRM driver directly from APSEED would be compatible with
Ubuntu.

Here is some additional info from one of the systems:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:    Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Release:        20.04

$ uname -a
Linux demo-remote2 5.8.0-49-generic #55~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 26 01:01:07
UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
