I have replicated a similar behaviour with Supermicro X11SCL-iF mobo which uses the AST2500. Unfortunately I don't have assess to the server as it is being tested for a possible hardware issue/s.
The reason I originally decided it might be a hardware malfunction was that the BIOS splash screen had what looked like fuzzy noise in the Supermicro splash image and text during boot up. This made me think it was unrelated to the wm or dm which looked normal initially. LIVE: 5.16.12 debian-live-testing-amd64-gnome+nonfree (blank screen once the display manager startup) LIVE: 5.14.10 Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-35-1.2 (display flickering & cycling on & off once dm is running) Symptoms: Live Boot in Fedora (5.14.10) starts up normal and then after a few minutes of use the display starts to cycle on off or flickers randomly but the GUI environment is unaffected. Moving the mouse seems to trigger a response as well. Did you manage to install the ASpeed DRM 1.12 driver and if so did it resolve the issue for you Supermicro units? Did adding "nomodest xdriver=vesa brokenmodules=ast" temporarly eliminate the blank screen issues? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924583 Title: ASPEED AST driver seems unstable in 20.04.2 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1924583/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
