I tested it with current Xorg from hardy. The problem persists. After some debugging and binary search in xorg.conf I found out that the bug only occurs at a colour depth of 16-bit. The problem can be worked around by switching DefaultDepth in the Screen Section from 16 to 24. Please tell me if

Could you please recheck it with Gutsy Live CD? I guess the problem comes from your xorg.conf. If it works with Live CD please generate a new one with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg". If it doesn't work please attach the files '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' and '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' from the Live CD.

Im using Gutsy. Actually I found out its not only that video files doesnt work...for example visualizations in Rhythmbox also doesnt work...its not the 64bit version, its the normal 386 one. How can I make sure the codecs are installed (it all worked before I upgraded to gutsy) -- no videoplayer
