I experienced the same problem on natty in the "Ubuntu Classic" mode. I
installed the CompizConfig Settings Manager and enabled the Cube
rotation and Window Magnifying effects. Without compiz in Ubuntu Classic
without visual effects mode, the window frames are still there. The

Hi, I have exactly the same problem on my (pretty old) laptop with ATI
RADEON IGP 320M. With feisty I used to run both compiz and beryl with no
special issue. I'll try the little hack you suggested and see what
happens.

Okay, I've got gnome-compiz-preferences running (sometimes, other times
it hanga), and turning Compiz on via that makes the window borders
appear, but turning it on via the appearance preferences doesn't work.
They're not present on login either, I have to start up g-c-p and then
turn compiz off an

I don't know if this is related, but on fresh home directory (not fresh
install), when changing the settings in the "Visual Effects" from Normal
to Extra leaves me without window borders. Going to the Config Manager
and enabling the Window Decoration Plugin in the "Effects"-section gives
me window
I have an nvidia card, but adding that doesn't seem to help ('Option
"AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"', right?). In fact adding that causes X to
lock up when starting compiz about one time out of three.
Is there anything useful I can do to get logs from compiz/gtk-window-
decorator?

Do you have an nvidia card? If so, make sure you have AddARGBGLXVisuals
in your xorg.conf's Device section. If not, make sure the DefaultDepth
is 24.
