That doesn't really sound like the same bug. The other reports here are

Oh, another symptom is that *sometimes* when this happens, the system
behaves as though the shift key were held down (e.g. left mouse clicks
cause a selection rather than a click). However I'm pretty sure that
none of the modifier keys are physically stuck down; if that were the
problem, I wouldn't
I also have keyboard lockups on Ubuntu Maverick with KDE 4.5.5 (kubuntu-
desktop packages on top of a Gnome install). Ctrl-Alt-F1 does *not* work
when the keyboard is locked up, in my case. This is the laptop keyboard,
not a USB keyboard, on a Dell Pavilion dv8 ea1110. (Not quite the same

The thing to watch is the row containing i8042 (this shows you interrupts from

Here's the result of watch cat /proc/interrupts about a minute after a
keyboard lockup. This is the first lockup I've had in several days. I
had to grab a screenshot - it was impossible to cut & paste the konsole
window with only a 2 second delay. I compared it to watch cat

It might be easier to just have a terminal that is running the command

won't result in a fix but they might help the diagnosis of the problem.

I'm happy to jump through those hoops, this is driving me crazy. It

a way to check whether the keyboard interrupts are still being delivered
by looking at cat /proc/interrupts and seeing whether the number
associated with the i8042 for your keyboard is rising when you press a

I just had a lockup with the open source nv driver so I'm (thankfully)
switching back to the Nvidia binaries. That OS driver is really fuzzy.
Any other ideas?
