I'm sorry, I was completely wrong about the 3.x branch not being azureus. (I
really should have tried it instead of just reading about it on their website.)
I've been running azureus 3.0.3.4 for several weeks now on both feisty and
gutsy without any problems, using sun's jre instead of gcj. As lo
Saïvann: A build bug is higher than a crash bug because every package
that goes into ubuntu must be able to be built on ubuntu.
That said, the azureus package in ubuntu needs some love.

I spoke to Chris Halse Rogers and it seems that we get no chances to
merge azureus 2.5.0.4 from Debian because the ubuntu package is pretty
different than the debian one and upgrading to azureus 2.5.0.4 will
takes a lot of work. Must be for Gutsy + 1

Like Jojo said, the actual binary azureus 2.5.0.4 package from debian
works. Unfortunatly, the 2.5.0.4 sources doesn't build for the reasons I
wrote above. the 2.5.0.0 seems to have been completely re-packaged
because of the same issues, so azureus is a complex package.
Chris Halse Rogers seems to
Marcus Sundman : libswt3.2-gtk-java is in the build-depends and was
installed properly during the compilation process.. So I don't really
know why compilation stop with these errors.

I used 2.5.0.4 in Feisty installed via Automatix and it worked good.
After migrating to Gusty I've 2.5.0.0 which dumps its core every time
after installing java1.6.0 from repositories. So I downloaded 3.0.3.0
(not Vuze) and it works fine for me. Shouldn't we migrate to this
version ASAP?

doesnt matter, its stuck at 2.5.0.0 for gutsy and the the feature freeze
is already past
but this NEEDS to be fixed for hardy, and might as well make it the
latest version (3.0.0.2) or whatever it is.

The azureus package depends on the libswt3.2-gtk-java package, which
contains the swt classes, including org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Composite.

It seems that the package won't be merged from Debian easily because it
doesn't compile, same if the build-depends are good and without further
modifications, I get 17 errors like that :

2.5.0.0 is in gutsy? That's crazy! We should have had 2.5.0.4 in feisty
and we absolutely need it in gutsy!

Again, im using gutsy, and the azureus package is STILL 2.5.0.0, which
is extremely buggy (at least on my computer), and could benefit greatly
to being updated to 2.5.0.4
is it still possible to update the package before gutsy releases final?

Again, this is issue is about Azureus. The 3.x line is Vuze and it's
quite irrelevant to this. If you want Vuze on ubuntu then wish for a
Vuze package.

I won't actually be able to do this package upgrade in the near future.
Our azureus package is quite complex, and I haven't yet managed to grasp
it.
If someone else doesn't beat me to it, I will eventually be able to do
this upgrade. I appologise if this bug has prevented someone else from

This should have been a duplicate of one of the two existing "sync/merge
Azureus 2.5.0.4" bugs :).
However, since it shouldn't be merged, I'll use this bug to indicate my
task of updating our Azureus package to the new upstream version.

Actually the 3.x is called Vuze and is quite different from Azureus.
They should be different packages. The newest Azureus is 2.5.0.4.
