The last debdiff fixes a problem with the .desktop file of gsambad and
we wish it to be uploaded to Ubuntu repositories. I'm ready to take
comments if there's still some details that should be fixed in order to
upload that new version.

desktop-file-validate now gives no any warning about the desktop file.
Here's the last debdiff. I think that unless we want to fix new problems
in that bug, this should probably do the job.

I think so, try to run a gutsy desktop-file-validate on it.

You're right when you say that they're common, but if you run a desktop-

Actually, these values where already here before I made the patch to fix
this bug, but if these values shouldn't be there, we can fix them too,
shouldn't we?
I just looked at some other .desktop files and the encoding field +

I've just tried your patch, it applies clearly but the .desktop file I
get in /usr/share/applications contains some deprecated values:

- 'applications' in categories

There we go! I made a new debdiff that change the .desktop file to use
"gksu gsambad", removed the .png in the iconfield and added my comment
in the changelog.
I think it's allright. Does anybody can confirm?

Yes, that is true that -S option is not needed. If gksu only is used

I agree,
does somebody knows what would be the good choice for that program? (

I'm not sure how to deal with gksu, let's wait for some other

Thanks for your suggestions, I agree with the new description for the
changelog and the .png removal!
Concerning the gksu, now that we're searching for what's best, don't you
think that just "gksu" without -S or -X would do the job? I don't really
know the -S option but it looks like it tells gksu
I think it's better to use gksu -S instead of gksu -X ; you should also
remove .png from the icon field. Finally in the changelog I would only

or something like that; I'm also new so consider that these are only
suggestions :)

Here's a patch file which fix that problem, just patch the gsambad-0.1.6
folder from the sources with that patch and package again.
This patch is quite simple and has been tested, it works. Replaced the
actual command by the one suggested by Sami Pesonen ( gksu -S gsambad )

I also think that there's no need to put 'menu' in gsambad dependencies
list (if there's no some hidden catch, of course), better is to change
the .desktop file so that it uses 'gksu', so that nothing unnecessary
doesn't get installed.

I can also see this problem with newly installed Ubuntu 7.10. su-to-root
is not there by default. Succest that the desktop launcher is fixed to

it seems that su-to-root isn't installed by default in the desktop version of

easy fix though:
