I can confirm observing a similar situation with Intrepid 64-Bit.
Hardware Configuration:-
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition
nVidia 8800GTX
SATA HDDs & DVDs

In watching the shutdown process, I believe that I observe the end of the X

Thanks Micah, I think you've just been quite a help. Obviously I'd
already checked the Adaptec web site and there were no specific drivers
for Linux listed against this card, but a deeper check of the
Knowledgebase came up with the following link :-

problem with the configuration of X during installation. My hardware
consists of a Tyan Thunder K8W board with 2 x Opteron 250s 4Gb RAM and

Hi Martin,
At this point I have not tried to perform an installation on this
particular hardware configuration using either Dapper or Edgy [I'm still
running very happily with Breezy].
However, if I can get some time this weekend I'll give it a go and post
the results back here.
