Found another one which may not be related, but because it's in the
resize plugin
I can't remap the setting for "Initiate Window Resize" for either
keyboard or mouse. I change it, click "back" and then go back into the
settings and it's remapped back to Button2

Immediate repair of issue by uninstalling ubunutone-client
sudo apt-get remove ubuntuone-client

In the BIOS the ACPI Suspend Type was set as S1 & S3.
ACPI APIC support is enabeled.
I changed the suspend type to S1, and no longer have the option to
"Sleep", only "Hibernate".
When I choose Hibernate, it actually shuts the machine completely down with no
