I was trying to install 9.10 on a Toshiba Satellite with a new hard

Instead of Gnome or Kubuntu, I booted into xterm. No power or shutdown
problems when I unplugged and plugged in the power adaptor.

By sleep of death I mean that there is disk activity, cpu goes into hi gear,
then the run led shuts down, the sleep led comes on and nothing works except
holding down the power button until the system shuts down. This happened when
I first loaded 9.10 from the DVD in the magazine Ubuntu User.

Ubuntu 9.10 has this problem but not Kubuntu 9.10. It is a big problem
now but not in previous releases. Once I got this kernel panic which
you can see in the enclosed dmesg immediately after restart.

I have cd's of ct scans after various amounts of chemotheraphy.I
need to compare progress of shrinking my tumors. It is very
disappointing that this long term release is passed off by telling me
that I can only take care of my life properly if I move to Debian Lenny.

Sounds like a great suggestion. But I have no idea which wiki you
are suggesting. So a link to the wiki in your answer would be helpful.
I am not sure if step by step how tos would reduce the number of
support requests because if users had confidence that they could
upgrade and solve problem
