Ho-hum.
Nothing here.
I've used versions of Ubuntu since 8.04 and this has never worked as described
and has never been fixed. Now Ubuntu has switched to Thunderbird and I see
comments on the web that Libreoffice in Ububtu cannot hook to that addressbook,
either. I guess the plan is to leave thi
My guess is that it is related to installing the Nautilus
encrypt/decrypt (Seahorse plugins) rather than the software update that
caused the problem.
After I got back in business (by deleting the .Xauthority and
reinstalling xorg) the problem has not recurred. It only happened the
one time.

Note that:
/usr/lib/evolution/3.2/evolution-addressbook-export --format=csv

does work to export the addressbook to a csv file in the home folder and
that Libreoffice can link to that csv file, so this can be worked around
manually.

Note: This problem was never fixed; it was just stalled off for about two years
and then Open office went away and Evolution went away as default installs for

I have no idea whether Libre Office now properly deals with contacts in an

I'm sorry, but what you ask is completely unnecessary. Ubuntu simply is not
shipped with the drivers for OO Word to access the Evolution contacts to use
as database info, such as for addresses in letters. These files are
available on Synaptic and they work... IF you can find out that you need
them
Finally, in 10.4 Lucid, (I'm using the 64 bit version) this appears to
be correctly resolved. The printer firmware is sent at a later time in
the process - after the desktop is up on the screen, in fact - and it
loads fully and properly. I assume this must have something to do with
the HAL changes?

I went to the motherboard BIOS setup (Gigabyte motherboard) and disabled all

I don't see that this is fixed in Karmic. I have that printer and have

Exactly as TDB says. f the printer (HP 1020) is turned on when 9.04 is
running, it will load the firmware and run perfectly. However, if left
'on' during the next boot, it will appear to load the firmware at
startup - the lights flash, etc., but the pattern is not the same as
when manually started.

cenora and newbie, xyz:
I had exactly the same problem in a brand-new load of Gutsy (7.10). The
mozplugger and timidity were both loaded and.. no midi in Firefox.
The problem was: the plug-in data was not being rewritten from the original
Firefox file when mozplugger was loaded.
The fix was: go
