Note: This problem was never fixed; it was just stalled off for about two years and then Open office went away and Evolution went away as default installs for Ubuntu. I have no idea whether Libre Office now properly deals with contacts in an address book under a default Ubuntu install. Of course, I'd presume the development team is on top of such questions.
