Not sure which component, but on my most recent update, a new config
file appears (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) with only the contents 'Section
"ServerLayout"', breaking the Xorg server on my system. Moving the file
out of the way fixed the issue.

Same issue occurred to me. Poweroff then reboot brought everything back
to normal. Tried to test out hibernate to see if both suspend and
hibernate are affected. Same issue -- system did not hibernate
successfully, with apport popping up after the current boot to report
the bug.
