+1. Constant segfaults would be less annoying than pointless game
updates from facebook. I hope this gets raised to critical.

Strange, I have not downloaded any updates since the day I installed
9.10 RC and have not changed any settings. But sound is now working
properly.
I did install a number of packages from the ubuntu/medibuntu repos but
nothing that affected sound (eclipse, vim, meld, skype, etc.).
/etc/modprobe.d/
I would just like to add that the popping was observed even when the
sound was muted. No popping was noticed when watching some videos. So
either I just did not notice it or the popping only occurs when idle.
The later would make sense if the soundcard is being toggled by the
power manager.

Sorry, I no longer have access to that hardware to perform the test (it was

At that time (post 8.4.1 release) it still had a problem.

The previously mentioned similar bug (42974) referenced Bug #40297,
where the submitter tried booting using different values in the
"vga=xxx" option.
I found that adding vga=773 to my boot options allows me to boot up w/o
a corrupt screen.
Shortly after "Loading hardware drivers" is displayed, I

This sounds similar to Bug #42974, however that is two years old. I had
also installed Ubuntu 7.04 on both of these systems and did not
experience these problems with that version. Consequently either this
bug reappeared or it is a new bug.
