Strange, I have not downloaded any updates since the day I installed
9.10 RC and have not changed any settings. But sound is now working
properly.

I did install a number of packages from the ubuntu/medibuntu repos but
nothing that affected sound (eclipse, vim, meld, skype, etc.).

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf appears not to have been modified either
(Modified date is Oct 11.)

Since my machine appears to be working and I will not be able to test
any fixes, you can probably close this report, unless anyone else is
able to reproduce the same issue.
