culprit. I'm finding that killing kpackagekitsmarticon does not always
solve the problem. It would appear that a number of other applications,
including Firefox and Thunderbird can lead to dbus going bonkers too.

@Alexia, that's a very useful tip. I have tried it on two of my Kubuntu
Natty boxes and it worked both times.
One just needs to remember to leave a terminal open because sometimes
dbus locks up so badly that one cannot actually launch a new
application.

I can also confirm that using the 275.09.04 drivers package from the
"philip5 ppa" resolved the various issues for me too. In fact it seems
to work remarkably well. No more nasty screen artefacts, no more random
crashes from gnome-terminal or gedit. Whilst I still maintain that

I'm sorry but I beg to differ. I think we CAN pin the blame fairly and squarely
on nVidia. This is a copy of the latest response I have received from nVidia's
"customer care", following yet another a fairly strongly worded email from me
with regard to nVidia's total lack of activit

Do I actually need it at all? As I understand it, all it does is log
what I'm doing. TBH, I'd rather it didn't - not that I'm doing anything
I shouldn't! lol. I just hate the feeling of being spied upon by my own

I shall certainly remember this fiasco next time I ever consider

- my problem with the camera stopping working after the upgrade to
Natty, actually had *nothing* to do with Ubuntu.
Seems that during the upgrade, the camera became switched off! Having
gone all around the proverbial houses,

BisonCam working great until I "upgraded" to Natty Narwhal - the latest
Ubuntu 11.04, c/w kernel version 2.6.38-8-generic.
Now its broken completely. Doesn't even appear in dmesg output at all.
Almost as if the firmware is not loading.

Further to my last post, I have been trying workarounds to this problem.
Truecrypt is very important for us and not being able to access the
menus makes it virtually useless to us. My observations:-
export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 - does NOT work for Truecrypt.
However, un-installing appmenu-gtk - does

STILL missing its menus in Natty.

Same here. Just upgraded. Downloaded the scan data. But still unable to
scan channels. Buttons grayed out as described by last poster.
My card is a LifeView Duo (Philips Semiconductors

I get it upgrading from Feisty to Gusty. I have never attempted to
upgrade to any pre-release versions of Gutsy. Seems this is a fairly
