I have the same problem. Since I've updated to Firefox 3.5 the Ctrl + F
shortcut doesn't work at all. I have to click to "Edit -> Find"
otherwise there's no chance to find something on a webpage

Hi! At my machine it was a compiz issue. The solution was:
Install and run the compiz settings manager. Select "place windows".
Configure this item: In my configuration the checkbox at workaround was
selected. Uncheck it.
Now everything runs fine.

Unfortunately I cannot test if this is still an issue, because I sold
the graphics card. The buyer didn't complain about those noises. I had
the sounds also under win, so I suppose there was a incompatibility in
my hardware. Now I have a ASUS NVidia EN 8600gts and no problems
