Why is this bug still marked Incomplete?
I reproduced it on beta2 reinstall, only this time I got the grub> menu
instead of the GRUB and flashing cursor. Still could not boot my system
without manually specifying root, kernel, initrd and running 'grub-
install' by hand.

Alejandro: I *THINK* it means that when we force the app to look for a
Pulse server that _doesn't exist_ (we are not providing on localhost by
default AFAIK), the app falls back to ALSA, which works (with
backports.) This puts the blame on Pulse (or a Pulse<->ALSA
interaction), and I think this in

independent desktops =( ...

I have dual-out on Lucid, but xrandr only shows one screen and detect
monitors shows "Unknown." However, it did guess to the appropriate LCD

I appreciate your debugging and I think it is likely this bug is due to
pulse or some interaction with alsa. I will try your left/right trick.
In general, as long as I do not use pulse, I seem to be OK. I have no
problem running Skype like this:
PULSE_SERVER=127.0.0.1 /usr/bin/skype
So glad to hear this will (hopefully!) make it into Lucid! For what
it's worth, it's none of the stability and bug-fix issues, however
important, that were a problem for our labs. It is the poor performance
of 4.4 on full or fragmented filesystems that has been the deal-breaker
for us, and forces

ago I edited the broken laptop-mode script /usr/shar
I can confirm on Karmic 9.10 (laptop-mode 1.47-1ubuntu2).
The combination of pulling the proper IWL into WIFI_IFNAMES (# LP:
#369113) from Lucid .deb's wireless-iwl-power (also defining
$IWLCONFIG!) and the "power off" "power on" lines from Sergio's patch
into Karmic's wireless-iwl-power fixed it.
OK. First I removed libextract-vorbis.so to avoid the error, and later
I removed tracker entirely because I was not satisfied with the
indexing, the interface and the (in?)ability to have quoted fulltext
searches ("word1 word2" --is this possible?)
However I will reinstall and attempt to reproduc
Debian will soon include 2010.1.16 in testing:
