I have about the same problem since I upgraded to Maverick, only it isn't
related to the radio but happens with any audio I play. After a variable amount
of time (sometimes it works a whole day, but sometimes only a few minutes) the
audio starts to become scrambled, with the interlapping blocks

Yoshi's workaround really helped, by the way, and now Richard's solution really
solved the problem. I deleted the saved sessions (didn't even know I had some)
and compiz started normally (without Yoshi's workaround).
